Industrial Electrician

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Industrial Electricians to support industrial maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and project work across a variety of operating environments.

The Industrial Electrician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment and systems used in industrial facilities. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance or construction team while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability, and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical systems and equipment.

• Diagnose electrical faults and equipment failures using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.

• Install and service motors, motor control systems, transformers, distribution equipment, panels, disconnects, and electrical controls.

• Work with motor control centres (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), contactors, relays, starters, and related industrial equipment.

• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, blueprints, and equipment documentation.

• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on electrical systems and production equipment.

• Troubleshoot electrical issues associated with industrial machinery and automated equipment.

• Install conduit, cable tray, wiring, control wiring, and electrical equipment as required.

• Test electrical systems for proper operation, continuity, voltage, current, insulation resistance, and other operating conditions.

• Support equipment installations, upgrades, commissioning, shutdowns, and plant maintenance activities.

• Identify electrical hazards and equipment deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective action.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service documentation, and work-order information.

• Coordinate with millwrights, instrumentation technicians, engineers, operators, contractors, and other trades.

• Follow lockout/tagout procedures and all site-specific safety requirements.

• Ensure work complies with applicable electrical codes, regulations, company standards, and safe-work procedures.

• Maintain tools, testing equipment, and assigned work areas in a safe and organized condition.

• Participate in emergency repairs and troubleshooting when required.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Industrial Electrician certification or recognized equivalent preferred.

• Red Seal certification is an asset.

• Registered apprentices with relevant industrial experience may also be considered depending on the assignment.

• Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, processing, production, energy, construction, or heavy-equipment environments.

• Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.

• Experience with industrial motors and motor-control equipment.

• Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.

• Understanding of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and industrial workplace hazards.

• Ability to use multimeters, megohmmeters, clamp meters, and other electrical testing equipment.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Valid driver's licence may be required depending on the work location.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered an asset:

• PLC-controlled equipment

• VFD installation and troubleshooting

• Motor control centres

• Automated production equipment

• Conveyor and material-handling systems

• High-voltage or medium-voltage equipment

• Preventative and predictive maintenance programs

Working Conditions

The position may involve:

• Working in active industrial or manufacturing environments.

• Working around operating machinery and equipment.

• Standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting throughout the workday.

• Working at heights or in confined spaces where properly trained and authorized.

• Exposure to noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and other normal industrial conditions.

• Shift work, overtime, weekends, shutdown work, or emergency call-outs depending on the assignment.

• Travel to customer or project sites where required.

Safety Requirements

Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety and may be required to hold or obtain site-specific certifications such as:

• WHMIS

• Standard First Aid/CPR

• CSTS or equivalent construction safety training

• Fall Protection

• Confined Space

• Elevated Work Platform

• Lockout/Tagout training

• Site-specific safety orientations

Additional certifications may be required depending on the customer and worksite.
