Architectural Design & Construction Specialist

Position Scope

Support projects from initial design review and drawing submission through construction, site review, deficiency management and completion.

The role requires strong architectural and construction-documentation knowledge with the ability to independently manage multiple active files at different stages.

Salary Range: $58 000 to $78 000 annually

Key Responsibilities

  • Review schematic, preliminary and final construction drawing submissions.

  • Assess architectural and design documentation against established technical criteria.

  • Review architectural, mechanical and electrical drawing sets for coordination and completeness.

  • Provide technical comments and identify required drawing revisions.

  • Coordinate design submissions, revisions, approvals and outstanding documentation.

  • Respond to technical questions from designers, consultants, contractors and internal project stakeholders.

  • Maintain drawing packages, plans, reports and supporting project documentation.

  • Track project schedules, drawing submissions, approvals and outstanding deliverables.

  • Participate in project coordination and construction-readiness meetings.

  • Conduct site reviews during construction to assess conformity with approved drawings and technical requirements.

  • Identify construction deficiencies and prepare supporting reports and documentation.

  • Coordinate deficiency resolution through project completion.

  • Review construction detailing and identify issues requiring consultant or contractor clarification.

  • Support pre-construction orientation and project handover activities.

  • Maintain tracking reports for active projects and outstanding technical items.

  • Coordinate formal project correspondence and maintain accurate project records.

  • Travel locally to active project sites as required.

Technical Requirements

  • 3–4+ years of relevant experience in architecture, interior design, architectural technology, construction design, project management or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret comprehensive construction drawing packages, including:

    • Architectural plans

    • Mechanical plans

    • Electrical plans

    • Construction details

    • Specifications

  • Working knowledge of:

    • Building codes

    • Construction detailing

    • Drawing review and coordination

    • Design documentation

    • Construction-site processes

    • Deficiency identification and closeout

Software

Practical experience with several of the following:

  • AutoCAD

  • Bluebeam Revu

  • Adobe InDesign

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • SketchUp

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft Word

  • Microsoft PowerPoint

Education & Credentials

Relevant post-secondary education, certification or technical training may include:

  • Architecture

  • Architectural Technology

  • Interior Design

  • Interior Architectural Design

  • Building Technology

  • Construction Technology

  • Construction Management

  • Engineering Technology

  • Project Management

  • Other directly related design or construction programs

Relevant professional or intern architectural/design credentials are considered assets but are not mandatory where equivalent technical education and experience can be demonstrated.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience conducting construction-site reviews

  • Ability to identify and communicate construction or drawing discrepancies

  • Ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision

  • Availability for local site travel as required
